How the hours are worked out
The hours are from the sun over each space, not a reading taken in it. 21 June is one day; a month figure is the mean of the model’s ten-day samples inside it. Both are averaged over the plants on that tile, and the crops are only out once the nights are warm enough.
What you are looking at

The six outdoor spaces are planted alike — tomato and basil at the railing, an olive in the middle, mint and lettuce against the wall — so the difference you see is the space, not the planting. The Clerkenwell balcony keeps what actually grows there. The three rooms are the ones that come out brightest across their floor on 21 June, interior walls included, and they grow what people actually keep indoors.
