Why it wants that

Nothing shades a rocky southern-African hillside, so the plant is built to run its whole water budget on unfiltered overhead light.

Too little light

New growth comes out soft and stretched and the leaves stay flat green with no red edging, so branches end up too weak to hold themselves up.

Too much

Leaf margins flush red and, on a plant moved abruptly out of shade into fierce sun before it is established, pale scorched patches appear on the upper leaf faces.
