Why it wants that
A ground-hugging semi-desert rosette gets no shade from anything and stores its whole reserve in leaves that only stay tight under strong light.
Too little light
The rosette opens out and the plant stretches upward on a bare stem, leaves spacing along it instead of overlapping, and the colour flattens to plain pale green.
Too much
The pink and red pigment deepens across the whole rosette instead of sitting only on the leaf tips.
